After lifting and examination at Haworth in 2020, it was established that more work than expected would be required, this was beyond the capacity of the workshops at the Worth Valley so after extensive research and investigation, the decision was taken to temporarily relocate 1474 to the workshops of the East Lancashire Railway in Bury. This was for a contract restoration of the bogies, below can be seen images of the work in progress at Bury, with one bogie at a time being restored whilst the body rests on an accomodation bogie.
February 2022 – the work now complete following delayed delivery from the local foundry of new brake shoes cast to the original L&Y pattern, 1474 passed test runs and was then used for 4 round trips between Bury and Ramsbottom on Saturday 26th February during the ELR Gala of 25th to 27th February.
June 2021 – the work you can see below has been carried out using Trust reserves and previous donations to meet the costs, we have now launched a fundraising appeal and hopefully you will be able to help with the completion of the work by donating towards the work we have listed, which can be found here
The photo gallery below shows that latest work which is being carried out on the second bogie, which appears to be in a lot better condition than the first.

From 2012 onwards an electrical charging system and steam heating have been installed, together with repairs to end panels and a reversion to original L&Y roof drainage design. In 2019 the carriage was taken out of passenger use for repairs on the brake rigging and suspension as recommended by new regulations concerning the upkeep of operational historic carriages.
At the end of the gallery below are featured some images of the bogie and chassis examination carried out in Haworth Yard in August 2020.
